  20. 1. What is SuperDIR 97?
  21.  
  22. SuperDIR 97 is a complete replacement for the MS-DOS "DIR" command with long
  23. filename support under Windows 97. It has all the features of DOS's "DIR"
  24. command plus a huge array of other useful features. Moreover, it still remains
  25. extremely easy to use.

  27. SuperDIR is released for distribution as Shareware. You can evaluate SuperDIR
  28. for 30 days. If you wish to continue using SuperDIR beyond this evaluation
  29. period you must register. The cost of registering is a mere AUS$19.97 (approx.
  30. US$15.00) for a single licence.

  34. 2. Why use SuperDIR 97?
  35.  
  36. There are many of us who still prefer to use the command line to accomplish many
  37. day-to-day file management tasks. The file management facilities in operating
  38. systems such as Microsoft Windows 97 are often too slow and cumbersome. The most
  39. common command issued at the command line is the familiar DIR command.
  40.  
  41. There have been many DIR replacements in the past which display files in
  42. different colours according to their file extensions. However, with the
  43. inclusion of long filenames in Microsoft Windows 97, our favourite DIR
  44. replacement utilities are no longer functional. Super DIR 97 was the first DIR
  45. replacement utility to implement the new long filename system and still remains
  46. the only DIR replacement utility to correctly implement all features of this new
  47. file system (known as VFAT).

  51. 3. SuperDIR 97 Features

  53.    * Complete Windows 97 and MS-DOS 7.0/7.1 compatibility, including
  54.      - Long filename (VFAT) support
  55.      - Extended wildcard specifications

  57.        (eg. \\COMPUTER_NAME\SHARED_DEVICE)
  58.      - Ability to display last access time, creation time or last write
  59.        time for files

  79. 4. Installation
  80.  
  81. Copy SDIR.EXE to your DOS directory (usually C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND or C:\DOS)
  82. or another suitable directory and then simply type "SDIR" instead of "DIR".
  83. You may also like to rename SDIR.EXE to D.EXE and then type "D" instead of
  84. "DIR". Make sure that this directory is contained in your path.

  88. 5. De-installation
  89.  
  90. Simply erase SDIR.EXE and SUPDIR.CFG from the directory you installed it
  91. to. SuperDIR 97 does not modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, WIN.INI,
  92. SYSTEM.INI, system registry or any other files. It is entirely self
  93. contained.

  99. The following is a brief summary of the SuperDIR usage and command line
  100. options (taken from built in help):

  130.          R Read only
  131.          H Hidden
  132.          S System

  134.          D Directory
  135.        Limits the files displayed based on the attributes of the files.
  136.        One or more attributes can be specified.
  137. /B     Use bare mode (no header or summary information is displayed)
  138. /BYTE  Display file sizes in bytes rather than KB, MB, etc.
  139. /CLR   Clear screen before displaying anything
  140. /D     Disable colour
  141.          A Disable all colour
  142.          F Disable file colour
  143. /E     Use upper case characters for filename display
  144. /F     Display full path names for each filename
  145. /FREE  Display free space on drive at end of display (enabled by default)
  146. /H     Hide dots (. and ..) from display
  147. /J     Justify filenames (available for 8.3 filenames only)
  148. /L     Use lower case characters for filename display
  149. /M     Custom display format
  150.          N Filename
  151.          S File size
  152.          T File date/time

  156.          (N and D are mutually exclusive)
  157.        The order of the output is the same as the order of the parameters
  158.        you specify. One or more parameters can be specified.
  159. /O     Set sort order
  160.          N Sort by name
  161.          D Sort by date
  162.          E Sort by extension
  163.          S Sort by size
  164.          U Unsorted
  165.          G Group directories first
  166.        Multiple sorting criteria is not available.
  167. /ORIG  Restore original settings
  168. /P     Pause between screens (enabled by default)
  169. /Q     Quiet mode, i.e. don't display any output
  170. /S     Recurse subdirectories. All directories below the current directory
  171.        will be displayed.
  172. /SET   Change default settings. This activates an interactive mode where
  173.        various settings can be changed.
  174. /T     Specify date/time display
  175.          A Last access time
  176.          C Creation time
  177.          W Last write time (default)
  178.        When a files date/time is displayed, this option selects which
  179.        date/time to display. Under exclusive DOS mode, this option is not
  180.        applicable.
  181. /TURBO Enable turbo scroll which results in much faster scrolling (enabled
  182.        by default)
  183. /U     Display only summary information
  184. /V     Verbose file display, i.e. display long filename, fat filename,
  185.        date, time, size, and attributes
  186. /W     Wide display format, i.e. display filenames only
  187. /X     Display 8.3 FAT aliases (only applicable under Windows 97)
  188. /Y     Vertical sorting direction as opposed to horizontal sorting
  189.        direction. The files displayed on each screen are sorted in
  190.        columns rather than rows.
  191. /Z     Display file descriptions if they exist (enabled by default)
  192. /7BIT  Use 7BIT ASCII (useful for outputting to a printer)
  193. /!     Allow SuperDIR output to be redirected, i.e. use DOS screen writes
  194. /[1234]Limit the minimum number of columns displayed. The output can contain
  195.        more than the number of columns you specify, but it can never contain
  196.        less.
  197. /?     Displays this help information
  198. NB: You can override preset switches by prefixing any switch with a - (hyphen)

  201. Here are some examples of SuperDIR uses:
  202.  
  203. SDIR /A:H-S      Display all files which have the hidden attribute set and
  204.                  also do not have the system attribute set
  205. SDIR /Msna       Display the size, long filename and attribute properties
  206.                  of all the files (in that order)
  207. SDIR /O-S-G      Display all files sorted by decreasing size with directories
  208.                  not grouped first (i.e. directories are sorted with the
  209.                  files)
  210. SDIR /Md /TC     Display the long filename and creation date/time properties
  211.                  of all the files
  212. SDIR /X          Display the long filename, size and 8.3 FAT filename of all
  213.                  the files (i.e. standard format plus 8.3 VFAT filenames)
  214. SDIR /Z          Display the size, 8.3 FAT filename and description of all the
  215.                  files. The long filename of a file will be displayed instead
  216.                  of the description if no desctiption exists (default)
  217. SDIR /-W         Display all files in the standard format if /W is a preset
  218.                  switch
  219. SDIR /! > F.TXT  Re-direct output to F.TXT

  234. 8. Registering SuperDIR 97
  235.  
  236. Registration costs AUS$19.97 (approx. US$15) and is for lifetime. Site licence
  237. discounts are also available. When you register SuperDIR you will receive a
  238. REGISTRATION KEY that will instantly register your copy of SuperDIR (use SDIR
  239. /R to register SuperDIR).
  240.  
  241. You can pay for your SuperDIR registration using your credit card (VISA,
  242. Mastercard, Bankcard), cheque, or international money order.
  243.  
  244. The easiest way to register SuperDIR is to use the online registration form
  245. which can be accessed from the SuperDIR 97 home page
  246. (http://www.ozemail.com.au/~sdir). Online registration is only available if you
  247. are paying with your credit card. Your registration key will be usually emailed
  248. to you within 48 hours of registration.

  250. There are other ways to register too. You can fill out the registration form
  251. accessible using the /INFO option (i.e. SDIR /INFO) or by directly editing the
  252. ORDER.TXT file. You must then mail it to the given address. Alternatively, you
  253. can email it directly to sdir@ozemail.com.au

  255. By registering SuperDIR you will obtain the following benefits:

  267. Please feel free to (a) upload SuperDIR to any Internet site or bulletin
  268. board, (b) demonstrate the software and its capabilities or (c) give copies
  269. to potential users, so that others may have the opportunity to obtain a
  270. copy for use in accordance with the following license terms.

  272. SuperDIR is released for distribution as Shareware. You have 30 days to
  273. sample the full capability of SuperDIR - the Shareware version includes all
  274. the features of the registered version. After this period, if you find that
  275. SuperDIR is a valuable utility, then you must register your copy. Use the
  276. /INFO switch followed by the "R" key to register.
  277.  
  278. The cost of registering is a mere AUS$19.97 for home, business, institution
  279. or government users (quantity discounts available). Registered users will
  280. receive a registration key which will register their copy of SuperDIR
  281. (which will remove the nag screens) and receive notification of future
  282. updates.

  284. You may distribute this evaluation copy to others so that they may try it
  285. out as well, as long as you distribute it with all related files. You must
  286. not, however, sell or accept any money except a distribution fee charged by
  287. shareware distribution companies. In addition, you must not tamper with any
  288. of the files that come with SuperDIR. Doing so is illegal. Please note that
  289. you risk prosecution if you do not register SuperDIR after 30 days of use.

  291. will make SuperDIR an even better product in the future.

  301. computer at any one time, otherwise, it may be used on as many machines as
  302. registered. In addition, you must not tamper with any of the files that
  303. come with SuperDIR. Doing so is illegal.
